The launching (and blessing) and get-together bbq at Riverside Park was a very social occasion for the club. Sadly, when we had our maiden voyage, all was not right. Our new boat has been returned to Newcastle to have the seats re-adjusted and will be returned probably on the long weekend. Until then, we will be using old faithful.....click here to view the launching ceremony.

raffle will be drawn at our meeting next week, Thursday 27th May would
everyone please ensure all tickets and money are returned as soon as possible.
A big pat on the back to all who attended!. This regatta was a test of spirit, with only 16 women paddlers to contest the Division and to come out winning the minor final by beating 4 other full crew teams and posting a time that would have seen the team come 4th in the major final, is a credit to all involved...well done and keep the purple flag flying high.
Arrived today at 10:00am 21st May, the boat. After finding out the day before that our boat was being delivered, it became a very hectic morning. The last voyage of our rented boat will be on Saturday 22nd May - out with the old and in with the new.
Consequently, all sessions will be cancelled until Sunday 30th May - to allow for a steering mechanism to be fitted. On this day all members are invited to participate in the maiden voyage at 10:00 followed by a BBQ at Riverside Park to celebrate this historic event...(yes, it was Saturday but majority ruled)

Enrty to the track is $6.00 and we hope to provide our own nibbles...stay tuned for more info.
I know that a lot of you have photos and it is good to share. You have the instructions, so wack them up...and try and keep them under about 150kb - the smaller they are, the quicker they will load.
Please note that week day sessions will now start at 4:30pm from May 4th. A Sunday session at 9:00am will also be included.
2 women paddlers are wanted to complete an OS team to Kuala Lumpur...details are:

If you are interested send me an email by Thursday 29th.
FOR $100 COUNTRY ENERGY VOUCHER & WINE: Thank you to everyone for
accepting the book of raffle tickets at our last meeting. Despite only
one negative comment it is really the only way to have every member of
the club contribute to helping to raise funds. Our very own boat is on
order and should arrive no later than early June. Then we will want to
order a trailer and still need enough funds left for ongoing running expenses.
Please help us to reach this great milestone. There are still a few members
who have not received their ticket book as they have not been to a paddling
session lately. Please ring Inga on 65668151 to arrange to either have
your raffle book posted or collected at the Club. Many thanks.
For those who attended, goodies can be paid for and collected after paddling on Tuesday.

Following from the Paddling Panel meeting, it has been decided to trial a member's suggestion (her name will remain anonymous in case of a backlash).
As a club, we want to include and encourage as many members as possible in all activities. So to enable new members to paddle in this regatta, you will see changes to the regatta crew list. An asterisk (*) has been included against paddlers names and their name will only appear in their preferred Category. The asterisk identifies that the paddler wishes to be considered for inclusion in the other Category if seats are available.
This change will free up seats in the Mixed category for members to attend. If anyone wishes to paddle in this regatta, please submit your name.
So, for future regattas, submit your name ONCE only for each Division(Premier, Masters, Grand Masters etc) in your preferred Category (Womens, Mixed or Open). If you wish to be considered for other Categories, include an asterisk with your name....simple as!
All paddlers please note that if you are unable to make a session, email phone or text Pam Madden (0407268684) of your cancellation, so that other paddlers can be allocated your seat.
Also, please support the earlier sessions (16:30) if possible, so that seats are available in the later sessions for workers.
attendance sheet is being introduced this week and will be kept at the
bowlo to be used for every session. All paddlers must pay their paddling
fee then tick off their name on the sheet.
Anna at Camping World will be placing an order for lifejackets. If any members are interested in purchasing their own lifejacket, please phone 65 624554 or email Anna.
A big WELL DONE to all paddlers who attended. An overall 3rd place at this regatta - and to be beaten by a dragons tongue in the semi to the eventual winners, is a credit to the effort that was put in by all paddlers. We had many compliments regarding our paddling action and performance, so the rebuilding process is starting to take shape.

Northern Region State Team
paddler considering taking the next step in Dragon Boating should consider
trying out for this team.
The current plan is to have 3 bases of training in the Northern region. Where these 3 bases are may change depending on where the greater number of paddlers comes from but at this stage they will be Top Nth Coast (Ballina to Urunga), Mid Nth Coast (Foster to Kempsey) and Newcastle.
Divisions being considered are Premier (>18), Masters (>40) and Grand Masters (>50) women, open and mixed. Shortest distance is 500m. State Titles are in Adelaide in April.
If you are interested click here by Jan 13th to express your interest - and please give it some serious thought ie. no time wasters, and I well send you an email of info that has so far been received. The club will then formulate a list of interested paddlers for submission.
Will be meeting Tuesday night 12th January. For your information, we discuss anything relating to training, coaching, regattas, sweeping and paddling in general. If anyone would like a matter discussed at the meeting please send an email outlining your item of discussion.
Entry has now been officially withdrawn....this is due to insufficient paddlers (16, as 2 paddlers have withdrawn) and a DBNSW requirement that the drummer must be a club member. Any inconvenience is regretted and for further info contact Debbie Mecham or Kerrie Linden.
Please note that the last paddling session for year is Tuesday 22nd. Sessions will recommence on Tuesday 5th January 2010.
Also...a video of our Regatta is available... click here to view... save the file to your HD and view it frame by frame - you will see something very interesting as to why TIMING is so important!...please view it for pleasure and view it to learn.

Special thanks to Christina and Charles for hosting our annual Christmas Party...all who attended had a great time and plenty of tucker.
The "unnamed trophy" was donated by Affordable Trophies and believe it or not, needs a name. Any suggestions please email them by the end of the week, and we will all decide on the name (i dont think the "Betty Wilson Memorial Trophy" is appropriate...at this stage).

Following from the GM on Thu 26th...now that everyone has been allocated their jobs/positions for this regatta, please sort yourselves out as to where you should be, what you are to do and the equipment that you will need BEFORE regatta day! as this will be a very busy day for the organisers...if you are unsure of anything, sort it out NOW with Sue Heathcote.
Also, following an increase in the number of paddlers in the composite team in PM division, only 2 seats are available for Kempsey paddlers. As there will be 3 heats in each division, paddlers in these 2 seats can be rotated. When the draw becomes available, please note when you are racing so that you can find a job replacement. Races will be run every 15 minutes.
Will all intending paddlers please put your names in your desired divisions for the Kempsey Regatta - if you have been allocated a job on the day, I am sure a fill-in can be found while you paddle!
It looks like Tacoma is unpopular, so the intention is to not submit a team.
The Paddling Panel has decided that after our own regatta, that the next will be Chinese New Year (CNY). A training program/plan is in development and will be released early in January for the assault on CNY. Following CNY is Taree - 2 weeks later.
"So eat up and be merry for January you train"...think about it...and if you see fellow paddlers going a bit "OB" tell them to "get with the program".
Inga is co-ordinating the above and so far has collected $160. If anyone can assist her in selling raffles tickets please let her know...well done Inga!
paddlers please note that if you are unable to make a session, phone or
text Deirdre (0409667372) of your cancellation, so that other paddlers
can be allocated your seat.
The Club has posted bail for Shirley with the surety that she continues to promote your club in Clyde St. Mall on Saturday mornings. A big thank you to her and fellow jailbirds for last Saturdays effort where over 100 promo pamphlets were handed out!
KMDBC Committee Announcement
One of the functions of the KMDBC Committee is to ensure that the Codes of Conduct and Behaviour of this club and that of DBNSW are adhered to, and that all members act accordingly. Also, if a member is found to bring this club into disrepute, they will be disciplined.
Any serious violation of these Codes will not be tolerated, and any written concerns or complaints received by this Committee will be given the utmost attention to ensure a safe and harmonious environment for ALL members.
The KMDBC Committee has thus convened a special meeting in relation to correspondence received concerning such an incident and has unanimously decided to stand-down and replace the current trainee coach.
At this stage, Paul and Mark will be performing the role as caretaker coaches, effective immediately. If you have any queries concerning the above, please contact a member of the Committee.
Charity Fashion Parade
All paddlers are invited to get down and come along and support "The Macleay Valley Home Hospice" fashion parade.
Fashions will be supplied by K&A, JUST LINGERE and ARCADE SHOES.
Kempsey Heights Bowling Club, Polwood St., West Kempsey
So come on down for a grrrrreat afternoon of fun and fashion!
A few emails have been received regarding the above, and all have been positive and supportive ... I think maybe that some people had too gooda time - might have to tone it down a tad next year ... and well done to all paddlers who participated, it was a great effort to reach the finals in both divisions ... hopefully, we now have Paul as our accredited sweep ... and special thanks to Judy for being such a good sport - this example of sportmanship is exactly what the Committee of this club hopes to instil in all paddlers ... and coaches.
A draft draw is available, heat times are: 8.15 (PM), 9.15 (PW), 10.15(PM), 11.15(PW), 12.30(PM), 1.15(PW) - Please take note of these times, so that the obvious question is not asked!...There are 10 teams in PM and 7 teams in PW Divisions....Also note that on the entry form, only 2 heats and a final are listed, but now there are 3 heats and a final. So if anyone wants to withdraw from a Division, due to the extra heat, please email me ASAP.
Please note that there are 4 reserve seats available in each Division. It would be handy to have these filled in case of injury.
Be sure to bring a hat, paddling shirt, wax, sunscreen and a chair...and small change for bus trip activities.
Details for this regatta are now available - see REGATTAS and enter your name in a Division. There are only 2 Open/Sports (Premier) Divisions - Womens and Mixed, each having 2 heats and a final. Distance is 200m. To enter a Division, we must have a minimum number of 16 paddlers. Closing Date is 18th October.
If you need accommodation for this event please phone Deirdre 0409667372...quickly!...Also a deposit must be paid to secure your accommodation. $20 is required by Sunday 20th September.
There has been discussion of a pre-grafton get together. This is a morning open to EVERYONE and it is on at Pam & Pauls : 627 Temagog Rd on the 24th October after paddling. People can bring morning tea to share and food to Bar BQ. They also need to bring chairs, plates, cutlery and glasses. We have some boules if anyone wants a game.
Relay For Life
be held on 17th & 18th Oct. Dragon Boaters are needed to set up and
serve afternoon tea to VIPs and Survivors. It would be great if we could
muster 6-8 people at the Showground dining room at 1.30 p.m. on Sat 17th.
No cooking needed, just come along, set up , serve and tidy up and generally
fly the flag.
We also would like some helpers for fill small bags with sand for the Candle Light Ceremony which is to be held at dusk. Maybe if some helpers cant make the afternoon tea, they could help with the sand and candles - come about 5pm. Should only need about 1 hour for this job - all gear supplied - easy to do.
Relay for Life committee would like to thank the KMDBC for their generous
help with afternoon tea and the Hope bags at the Saturday event. We had
a very successful time - 428 registered walkers with a very large amount
raised for Cancer Support , which will all be spent in the local area.
See local papers for final result of funds raised. Thanks again everyone.
DBNSW Individual Membership Forms
It is a requirement that all members fill out and return this form to Deirdre as part of their registration. Please do this ASAP so that all memberships can be finalised with DBNSW without any dramas!...click here to download the form.

A meeting was held last Friday 2nd October on the riverbank at the regatta site with Council employees for Environmental & Natural resourses , Customer First employees. Also councilors Liz Campbell & Jenny Sproule attended in support of our application.
After the big let down of Council rejecting our regatta application it is now FULL STEAM AHEAD, all as result of our very efficient and persistant secretary , Sue.
the decision was positive. While there is still much red tape to be completed
we are now working towards our goal of hosting our first regatta.
Paddling Long Weekend
Due to the unavailability of sweeps and bare foot ski racing on the river, paddling will re-commence on Tuesday October 6th at the daylight saving time of 17:30.
Boat Maintenance Day
Our first one, is on this Sunday 20th, 10:30 at the boat ramp after the paddling session. All hands on deck, literally, to have a good old clean up of the boat - inside and out. So bring along your cleaning gear and an appetite, as a bacon and egg roll brunch will be provided.
Is a a paddling session for the social paddler, limited instruction will be given (unless asked)...you are a free spirit to paddle at your own level. All that is asked is that you paddle with rythym/timing...and have fun doing it!... The session will last from 60 to 90 minutes.
The first of these sessions was patronised by 16 paddlers...a great success. If it becomes huge, then more sessions will be offered. If you have any ideas on what you would like to be included, or even a more suitable time, please let me know by email... and... its all about penguins and ice-cream!
Due to the lack of paddlers and thus being unable to fill a division with the minimum numbers, the club will not be entering this regatta....so look out Grafton, the rat pack is on its way!
Plant & Craft Sale
another big successful fundraiser for the club. Despite the cooler weather,
Lyn had a lot of customers - up until about 2.30pm and made the grand
sum of $550. A special thank you to Lyn and all who helped out. Lyn has
arranged for the few left over plants and other items to go to the RSPCA.
With the introduction and progression of our new paddling program over the past weeks, sessions will last at least 90 minutes to finish all the drills. So please allow enough time!
Of sweeps and coaches has been formed to establish and maintain a training program for the club for the current and subsequent regatta seasons. The program will be left in the paddle locker for all paddlers to view. If anyone has a concern about the program or any paddling issues, ideas or innovations, please refer it to the panel.

This is a fitness self assessment being offered to all club members. It will involve paddling the boat across the river with the sweep and an observer. You will be be timed, stroke counted, weighed and anything else that you want that will help you assess your fitness and stamina. The Water Test will be carried out about every second/third month and your results noted and compared to previous tests.
This is a great opportunity to compliment your paddling with other exercise activities and have your fitness monitored. The test is optional and is on this Sunday at 12:30, preceding the 13:30 session.
If you wish to do the test again, please put your name down...and remember this is a test to determine your fitness level and then to compare at a later stage. Therefore, paddling at your maximum limit is recommended. As a guide it will take you approximately 3 minutes and about 145 strokes.
This looks like an interesting regatta...10 paddlers (16 max), a drummer and sweep...hosted by Sydney Tsunami DBC and includes a Grand Masters category...click here for more info.
Is this Sunday July 12th at the Bowlo 15:00...after the paddling session.
