The Park is on the river past Settlement City shops....Muster time is 7:30....It would be good to know if you are intending to go to this regatta by Tuesday May 19th, as this will be the last day that this website will be updated before the regatta, as I will be on holidays.

Pool Party & BBQ
30th JANUARY 5.30pm
WHERE:13 LAWRENCE CRES KEMPSEY (off Kemp Street north)
$20 pp...Let's eat, drink and frolic together
It is a big day at the Showground with displays and stalls from all the groups in the Valley, a great opportunity to rally interest and to recruit new members.
TIME: 10:00 to 14:00
people needed for the marquee to answer questions and to enthuse.
We can set up on our designated site any time prior to 9.30. Lyn will be there with marquee etc. at 9a.m .and would appreciate some help. There will be no admission charge for DB helpers - just wear your shirt and advise the gatekeeper of same. Entry for helpers is through the Kemp St. access and parking for helpers will be inside the showground.
Lyn will take a couple of chairs for use in the marquee - have flyers
to hand out, plus banner, dragon head and photos for display, please bring
anything else you think might be helpful. Looking forward to as many as
possible sharing the tasks, we plan on having the stall open from 10.am
until mid afternoon, so just an hours help would be welcome.
For further info contact Lyn.

George, a professional photographer, will be taking ID photos at the Bowling Club on Tuesday 13th and Thursday 15th from 17:00 to 19:00. If your photo was not taken at Tacoma, all members must attend one of these sessions.
It is a requirement from DBNSW that all paddlers have a photo ID. These photos have to adhere to the "ID Digital Photo guidelines" - very similar to a passport photo. They have to be of a particular dimension, capacity size then burnt onto a disk - its overkill to the extreme!...and it is time consuming.
All this has to be done by January 15th, so that the ID's are ready for CNY and all subsequent regattas. What DBNSW will do if we don't have our ID's is anyone's guess.
At Crescent Head on December 28th and January 4th was a great success with a total of $1,164.00 being raised. Special thanks to all who helped out...The benefit of this money will go to the club and its members.
As we still have "stuff" left over, a garage sale will be held at Lyn's place in February at a date TBA. So if you still have any unwanted/excess items (clothing included) that is laying around the house and is in good saleable condition bring it along.
The Boat & The Club
I have been told by the Bar Manager that the roller door of the club was left open last Sunday December 14th after the boat left the club. If you want an excuse for the club to stop us housing the boat, then you have found it!. If you are the last person leaving the club, the roller door must be closed at all times. If you have trouble closing it, see the Bar Manager or Cleaner - either way, do not leave until it is closed.
If you have ordered a Grey Owl paddle it has arrived and available from Deirdre for $85. Please hurry up and pay so I can get rid of them out of my life. If they are a xmas pressy then you have up till next Thursday - 18th to pay, as I will be away after this date.
Please note that the General Meeting for all members will be held at Riverside Park on Sunday 14th December at 16:30. The change in time is to accommodate paddling sessions. All members are welcome to attend, and to table any issues or concerns that they have within the club.
"Bitch of the Month": Please give me a break and pay your paddling fees with a gold coin. If you don't want the silver either palm it off onto someone else or give it to charity...but if you must pay with silver make sure it is bagged or wrapped and showing the correct amount....and have a nice day!
This night will be held at Cheers Restaurant, Belgrave St., on Friday Dec. 12th. Cost will be $15 p/p. All members, partners and friends are welcome. Tickets now available from Deirdre.
We have booked the whole restaurant and..it's BYO with finger food provided, starting at 7pm. If you want to have a hoot of a night, a bit of a mingle and some fun, be sure to be there. And don't forget the theme for the night is "Formal - with a twist".
Tickets must be sold by 5th December for this event to go ahead as we need to pay a deposit on this date.
Paddling with Port Macquarie - updated
This is happening on Saturday 29th November.
There will be 2 sessions - 8:40 (on the water by 9:10) and 9:50 (on the water by 10:20).
These sessions will provide the chance for all to paddle with a different crew, coach and boat and is a great opportunity to see how other clubs prepare and train on the water. Each session will be hard (our preferred way) and limited to 10 KMDBC paddlers. So get in quick and don't miss this chance!
Are being re-introduced, starting Tuesday 25th November. These sessions are for everyone who wants to get fit, feel stronger, leaner and loves regattas. The sessions will be demanding and not for the faint-hearted, and will be indentified by a pink colour.
RAIN does not stop any sessions ! (only heavy wind and lightning)
The next GM is at Riverside Park on Sunday 14th December at 10:00am following an 8:30am paddling session, brunch will be provided.
Information and General Meeting Day
This day is on Sunday 16th November at Riverside Park from 9-12. Flyers have been distributed around town offering free paddling to anyone who wants to try dragon boating.
It is hoped that we will also recruit new members, and grow the club. We will need help on the day from all current paddlers who can attend at some stage as we are hoping to mix new paddlers with seasoned paddlers in the boat....and the boat can't be taken out with a crew of less than 12.
Also, after the Info Day, a General Meeting will be held at 12:00 for all members to discuss Tacoma regatta, fundraising, boat housing, xmas party, social/training days and sweeps. This is your club so come and have your say...REMEMBER: Wear your club shirt and bring a chair.
Girls Avo at CURVES
Spend the afternoon in with the girls to raise money for women's cancers, Saturday 18th October 1pm till 4pm. Come along for a fun arvo of games and entertainment as well as displays by various local businesses (dragonboating will be on display).
This weekend is the October long weekend and the introduction of daylight saving - some might say woopy doo, others may not. But it does mean more afternoon daylight. So to celebrate this suspicious occasion, paddling sessions will commence at 17:30 on Tuesdays and Thursdays....also the bistro at the bowlo is open from 6:00pm on Thurdays with quite reasonably priced food.
Please note also that the boat will leave the boat ramp at the time listed for all paddling sessions - so get there early as.....and dont waste time ie.fart around!
Power Paddling Sessions
Following the sweep's training with Kris, it has been decided that all paddlers need to be fitter and stronger to compete in any regatta. So, for the time being, we have decided to turn the power sessions into Grafton Regatta training sessions. Again, you will be worked hard and expected to do additional personal training.
If you are going to the Grafton regatta to paddle, you are part of a team and as with any team sport, training is essential. Every effort should be made to attend these sessions.
Major Raffle Results
PRIZE: Macleay River Houseboat Weekend (valued $450), Tkt No. orange
A10, MAURIE FULLER.
Congratulations to all winners, and thank you to to all those people who sold tickets and to the local businesses who donated the prizes!
Currently we have 40 club members - this is a great result given the infancy of the club. However, the boat cannot go out on the river without a sweep....and sometimes even sweeps would like to paddle!.
In the month of October, presently only 1 sweep will be available for ALL sessions - if something unexpectantly happens in his life during that month, the boat will not be on the river during October. Also with daylight saving just around the corner, it is hoped that afternoon sessions can be offered - but, you need an available sweep.
Its your club and it is in need of more people (and that does include women) wanting to be trained as sweeps. If you are interested please send an email and I will forward some info...to be a sweep, you dont need to be strong but you do need to know just the basic set of commands (which you all should know by now).
Macleay Quilters are holding a Biennial Quilt Exhibition at the Showground on Friday 29th and Saturday 30th August 9-5pm. There will be quilt raffles for charity, demonstrations, a trading table, merchant hall and refreshments available. The quilters have kindly offered to make a quilt for our club to raffle - it will be ready next year.
Gala Day Launch
The launch of our boat at Riverside Park was a huge success.
A reported crowd of over 200 people enjoyed a glorious day of fun, food and paddling.
Thanks also to the Temagog Bush Fire Brigade for supplying the bbq.
A big thank you to all who turned up and showed interest in dragon boating. The roll-up was quite unexpected, so we are now gearing up for an even bigger Gala Day on the 29th June.
We have decided to put all membership and paddling information on the website (a link is coming soon), so that you can download the forms, print them out and bring them along on the 29th - mainly to avoid a rush on the day.
Big news for your diaries...
As the boat has arrived it is now time for everyone who is interested in becoming a financial member/paddler, to come forward.
Firstly, an information day will be held at the Kempsey RSL Bowling Club in Austral St on Saturday June 14th from 2:00pm to 4:00pm. The purpose of this day is to meet the committee and fellow paddlers and to ask as many questions as you like. The dragon boat will be downstairs- if you wish to check it out. Membership forms will also be available.
Secondly, a HUGE Gala Day has been organised to celebrate and launch our Dragon Boat on the Macleay. So if you can't make it to the information day, get along to Riverside Park, Sunday June 29th 10:00 am.
There will be guest speakers, food and hopefully some entertainment. But most importantly, you will be given the chance to try out dragon boat paddling on the river.
Everyone is welcome to both these days.
To celebrate the arrival of our boat (and do a bit of fundraising), a few of the girls got dressed up in their best attire and hit the pub scene.
Special thanks to the publicans and patrons of the West Kempsey, Great Northern and Railway Hotels for their support and donations.
It is now confirmed that our DRAGON BOAT will arrive in Kempsey on Friday 23rd May and will be housed at Kempsey Bowling Club.
The Committee is organising an information and launching day in June (date to be finalised)...so stay tuned!
Thank you to all those who entered the competition to name our team. With so many great entries to choose from, it became difficult to choose just one. But when all is said and done, there can be only one winner.
Well done Gordon & Jo Ellis from South West Rocks. And the name is . "RIVER RATS".
and Jo received a hamper and were very humble yet surprised to learn of
their win. Congratulations Gordon & Jo. We look forward to wearing
the name proudly.
The trolley is now complete and a big thanks goes to the North Coast Steel for donating the steel and to Max Gleeson for building the trolley. Well done!
Our dream to have a Dragon Boat on the beautiful Macleay River is almost a reality and keen paddlers are chomping at the bit to get it on the water.
Actually, if you look at the photo, you'll see that some of them are so keen they thought they'd try paddling the trolley before the boat arrives. A little imagination can take you a long way!
Also, as the weeks draw closer to us taking delivery of our boat, an information and membership day will be held at the Austral Street Bowling Club...a date and time is yet to be confirmed.
The search is on for a name for our Dragon Boat Club.
The committee is opening up the search to potential club members to come up with a name. For example, Port Macquarie is known as the "Flamin Dragons" and Urunga as"Titavators".
So thinking caps on, email your idea with your name and phone number....and the name we decide on will win a hamper!...entries close 16th May.
If you have an item of interest please send an email.
We are always in need of people to donate their time to help us raise money to achieve our mutual goal.
